Fireworks safety

It is time for fireworks.  Please remember to be safe and use these safety tips.

  • USE FIREWORKS OUTDOORS ONLY.

  • OBEY LOCAL LAWS.

  • IF FIREWORKS ARE NOT LEGAL WHERE YOU LIVE, DO NOT USE THEM!

  • ALWAYS HAVE WATER HANDY (A HOSE OR BUCKETS OF WATER)

  • ONLY USE FIREWORKS AS INTENDED.  DON’T TRY TO ALTER THEM OR COMBINE THEM.

  • NEVER RE-LIGHT A “DUD” FIREWORK (WAIT 20 MINUTES AND THEN SOAK IT IN A BUCKET OF WATER)

  • USE COMMON SENSE WHEN USING FIREWORKS.   SPECTATORS SHOULD KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE SHOOTER.  AND THE SHOOTER SHOULD WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

  • ALCOHOL AND FIREWORKS DO NOT MIX.  HAVE A “DESIGNATED “SHOOTER

  • ONLY A PERSON OVER AGE 12 SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HANDLE SPARKLERS OF ANY TYPE.

  • DO NOT EVER USE HOMEMADE FIREWORKS OR ILLEGAL EXPLOSIVES; THEY CAN KILL YOU!

  • REPORT ILLEGAL EXPLOSIVES TO THE FIRE OR POLICE DEPARTMENT IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

The spring season is now here and we all love to be outdoors tending to our homes and property.  A cold harsh winter with snow, sleet, wind, ice and rain seem to bring with it many unwanted things on our property.  Things such as downed trees, tree limbs, and other property liter that is unwanted. This is often required to be cleaned from our property yearly, weekly even daily.  Property owners large and small feel the need to burn the unwanted debris.  The unwanted debris can be burned as long as the property owner follows Kentucky Department of Forestry guidelines.

State law stipulates that during the spring fire season it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woods or brush from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. The evening-to-morning difference is because humidity tends to be higher and breezes more slight during these hours.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates that only site developed brush can be burned within this time frame.

The Boyle County Fire Department ask you to call before you burn.  When you plan to burn call The Boyle County Fire Department  or  Danville/Boyle County  Central Communications.
